Michał studied law at the UMK in Toruń (Master’s thesis attained highest grade, Chair of Trade Law) and obtained his LLM, cum laude, in International Tax Law from the University of Stellenbosch (RSA). He held a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the University of Osnabrück, Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court (OLG). In 2006 he took the bar exam in Poland and attained an excellent grade (“ocena celująca”). Since 2007 he practices as a lawyer both in Germany and Poland (member of the Düsseldorf Bar Association). For several years he was predominantly active in Düsseldorf and is currently Managing Partner for the ZJPL Pietrzyk, Znyk, Jaworski, Lewandowski sp.p. Warsaw Office.
He has many years of experience in providing comprehensive legal advice to companies engaged in international business activities. He advised during a number of transnational takeovers and acquisitions of companies in the German and Polish market in the last few years. These included Polish investments in the German automotive industry, the acquisition from a Japanese investor, owner of majority shares in a manufacturing company in an exclusive economic zone in Poland and the acquisition of a manufacturing company in Poland from financial investors to a sector investor from Germany.
He advises on setting up/establishing international holding structures, national and international mergers, transformations and restructuring of companies. He has been advising one of the biggest Polish banks on matters of business in Germany. He gave advice to several Ukrainian investors in the IT sector when they entered the Polish market.
For several years now, he has devoted himself to the problems of cross-border service provision, in particular temporary employment and posting of employees. He presents companies in complex cases with an element of transnationality before ordinary courts and arbitration tribunals. He helps private clients with the planning of succession and asset protection.
Michał is the author of numerous publications on commercial law and international tax law. He regularly appears as a speaker on conferences, workshops and seminars where he gives lectures on legal and tax-related aspects of transnational business activities, including temporary employment and posting of employees. He continues to collaborate with the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Germany as well as the Association of Employment Agencies (Stowarzyszenie Agencji Zatrudnienia).
